How soon after a consultation can I have surgery?
Between 3-5 weeks. For travelling clients, we will do our best to arrange a consult and surgery in one trip. Some restrictions apply.
Do you provide post nursing care or overnight stay?
Yes. If surgery requires extensive post operative care, we can accommodate overnight stays. We have six overnight stay rooms where qualified nurses look after you. We can also help you organize a home care nurse.
Can I go home on my own?
No. On discharge post surgically you must be accompanied by a responsible adult who may either drive you home or accompany you home in a taxi. Public transportation is not an option. If no one is available to you we would be happy to arrange a nursing escort for you.
What qualifications do your surgeons have?
All surgeons have applied and been approved by the College of Physicians and Surgeons in order to perform surgery at the Cambie Surgery Centre. Most of the physicians are nationally and internationally renowned.
Do I need blood work done or any other tests?
Additional tests might be required depending on the physical history of the patient. Every patient is different. Therefore, during your pre-operative assessment you may be asked for further testing.
Can I eat, drink or smoke/vape before surgery?
No. Most surgical procedures require that you refrain from eating past midnight before surgery. You should not smoke/vape the day of surgery, and the best scenario would be to refrain from smoking as long as you can prior to your surgery date.
Do I need to bring anything?
Depending on the surgery you may be required to bring crutches or a cane to assist you. Please be sure to leave all valuables at home.
What type of anesthesia is used?
An anesthesiologist will be present during surgery. They will determine which anesthesia is most suitable for your surgery. We have the capabilities for general, spinal, regional block, and local anesthesia with IV sedation.
How can I provide positive feedback or suggestions for improvement?
Please submit an email to info@cambiesurgery.com or fill out the form on our Contact Us page, and we will respond as quickly as possible.
