We offer a variety of gastroenterology screening and general surgical procedures.

We are able to care for out-of-province patients. Appointments may be booked through the Specialist Referral Clinic. You will have a virtual consult with the surgeon and then an in-person assessment. Procedures may be booked for the same visit once you have been deemed medically fit.

COLONOSCOPY

A colonoscopy is a procedure that allows the doctor to see the lining of your large bowel (colon or large intestine) in detail and look for problems in your colon. These include any early signs of cancer, inflamed (red or swollen) tissue, ulcers (open sores) and bleeding.

During a colonoscopy, a long, flexible tube (colonoscope) is inserted into the rectum. A tiny video camera at the tip of the tube allows the doctor to view the inside of the entire colon.

Sometimes a small sample of tissue, called a biopsy, is taken during the procedure to provide more information for diagnosis and treatment. If you have polyps (an abnormal growth of tissue on the lining of the bowel), your doctor may remove these during the procedure (polypectomy).

You will be closely monitored during the procedure by an anesthesiologist. You will feel drowsy and relaxed from the sedation (this is not a general anesthetic).

GASTROSCOPY

An upper endoscopy, also called an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy or Gastroscopy, is a procedure that allows the doctor to see the lining of your esophagus (the tube that goes from your throat to your stomach), stomach and the duodenum in detail. This is done with the help of a tiny camera on the end of a long, flexible tube.

Sometimes a small sample of tissue called a biopsy is taken during the procedure to provide more information for diagnosis and treatment.

You will be closely monitored during the procedure by an anesthesiologist. You will feel drowsy and relaxed from the sedation (this is not a general anesthetic).
