Dr. Alexandra Brooks-Hill
SPECIALIZATION: KNEE, SHOULDER
Dr. Alex Brooks-Hill is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with subspecialty training in shoulder, elbow and knee arthroscopic and sports surgery. She completed her undergraduate, medical school and residency at the University of Toronto. After orthopaedic residency Dr. Brooks-Hill completed a clinical fellowship in athletic injury, upper extremity and arthroscopic orthopaedic surgery at the University of British Columbia. Her second fellowship was an AO trauma fellowship with a focus on knee injuries at the University Hospital in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Brooks-Hill’s practice focuses on urgent and elective shoulder and knee sports injuries, as well as daycare extremity trauma. In partnership with Dr. Sally Clark and sport medicine colleagues, she runs a rapid access shoulder and knee acute injury clinic in Sea to Sky.
Dr. Brooks-Hill is a physician member of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team medical group. She was also the Chief of Medical for the Men’s Alpine Skiing events at the 2010 Olympics in Whistler. She was previously the Co-Chief of Medical for the 2008 Alpine World Cup and the 2009 Para-Alpine World Cup. She is also a previous physician member of the Whistler Blackcomb ski patrol.
Dr. Brooks-Hill is a collaborator on the Acute Knee Injury Practice Support tool development team. She is also a CIHR grant application collaborator for a Stop Osteoarthritis RCT for Young People at-High-Risk of Early Onset Osteoarthritis RCT. In her community she has initiated ACL injury prevention programs with both the Whistler Mountain Ski Club and the Whistler Soccer Association. In partnership with the Whistler Healthcare Foundation and Whistler Community Services Society, she also created access to physical rehabilitation for low income community members.
Dr. Brooks-Hill is the membership chair on the Arthroscopy Association of Canada executive. She also sits on the membership committee for the Canadian Orthopaedic Association. In addition, she is a member of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, Canadian Academy of Sports and Exercise Medicine, SportMed BC, British Columbia Orthopaedic Association, Canadian Medical Association, Doctors of BC, and Canadian Women In Medicine.
Dr. Brooks-Hill has a lifelong passion for sport. In addition to competitive team sports, she has enjoyed being athletically active in the Sea to Sky corridor throughout her life. Her goal is to help others do the same.
